Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has denounced medical assistance in dying for those with mental illness, minors and veterans with PTSD.
Saying the federal government for moving “too fast” on its medically-assisted suicide laws, the Conservatives have introduced a bill revoking the inclusion of the mentally ill.
“Yes we would repeal it. We don’t believe that medical assistance in dying for people who’s only condition is mental health trouble,” Poilievre told reporters. “And I don’t believe we would need to use the not-withstanding clause because no court has required MAID be provided for mental health alone.”
Poilievre says the government needs to promote policies that prioritize compassionate palliative care, rather than making medically assited dying the only option.
On an another matter, Poilievre says he has no plans to remove three party members from caucus after they met with a far-right German politician.
