Over 350 artificial intelligence experts and executives are warning world leaders in a letter, to consider AI as one of the most serious risks to humanity.
”Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war,” wrote Sam Altman, CEO of ChatGPT maker OpenAI and others.
Among them Canadian-British artificial intelligence pioneer Geoffrey Hinton, one of the three so-called ”godfathers of AI,” who says he left Google because of recent discoveries about the technology that made him realize its poses a threat to humanity.
Hinton says AI could pose a ”more urgent” threat than climate change.
The letter comes as the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council meets in Sweden where politicians are expected to talk about regulating AI.
