The City says the decision to expanding program eligibility means an additional low-income residents are being offered more affordable transit fares.
Under new eligibility criteria, effective today, the program prioritizes those between 20 and 64, living in what the city calls ”deep poverty,” such as low-wage and part-time workers, newcomers and the unemployed receiving employment assistance.
It’s also now open to residents on the waitlist for subsidized housing and child care.
Based on these thresholds, an individual with after-tax income below $20,514 or a family of four with income below $41,028 would be eligible for the discount.
Currently, the 12-month discount on the TTC; including Wheel-Trans, includes a 36% discount on single adult fares ($2.10) and 21% off monthly passes ($123.25) by adding a discount code to the rider’s PRESTO card.
