Health officials are comparing it to an annual flu shot.
Health Canada’s given the green light to Pfizer’s updated vaccine against COVID for those six-months and older.
It’s administered as a single dose for those 5 and older.
Those between six-months and five-years of age who haven’t received the primary series should get three doses.
Pfizer expects the newly formulated vaccine to be available ”in the coming weeks,” before the respiratory virus season is projected to peak.
Moderna’s updated vaccine was approved earlier this month.
The health regulator’s also reviewing Novavex’s latest vaccine targeting the Omicron XBB.1.5 variant for those 12 and older.
Officials are not calling the shots ”boosters,” but view the updated options similar to the annual flu shot.
