Ontario’s Official Opposition is calling for the Auditor-General’s Office to look into ”Ford’s shady backroom deals,” and the government’s decision to ”force” municipal urban boundary expansions.
Bonnie Lysyk’s term has expired and the province has not yet named her successor.
”We know now that Ford’s corruption almost gave a select few wealthy land speculators the chance to make billions with his Greenbelt Grab,” said NDP Leader Marit Stiles.
”Everyone from farmers to First Nations to activists knew something wasn’t right and together, we go to the bottom of it.  We’re ready to do the same again.”
The New Democrats previous request into the Greenbelt resulted in the A-G’s report, that found the Conservatives ”rigged” the system to give ”certain land speculators preferential treatment” on Greenbelt lands.
The NDP wants to see a value-for money audit assessment of the financial and environmental impacts of the government’s amendments to:
Municipal official plans such as Halton, Hamilton, Niagara, Ottawa, Peel, Peterborough, Waterloo and York.
A previous value-for-money audit request led to the auditor-general’s report into the Greenbelt, which in turn saw several cabinet ministers resign.
