Screen legend Helen Mirren was in Toronto last night being honoured at the Simon Wiesenthal Centre’s annual Spirit of Hope Gala which, this year, put the spotlight on the rise in antisemitism.
The now 78-year old academy award winner telling the crowd the terror attack on Israel, on October 7th frightened her the most as she wondered how anyone could commit the kind of acts Hamas terrorits committed that day.
Others on hand took a stand against antisemitism with Premier Doug Ford pointing to the value of holocaust education in the Ontario School System. Toronto Mayor Olivia urged peace and understanding citing words from the city’s coat of arms, “Diversity is our Strength.”
Dame Mirren recently starred in “Golda,” playing former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir and was honoured with the organization’s humanitarian award.
