Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie has been declared new leader of the Ontario Liberal party.
Crombie came out victorious after three rounds of voting saw Ted Hsu, Yasir Naqvi, and finally Liberal M-P Nate Erskine-Smith fall off the ballot. She thanked her supporters in her victory speech.
The 63-year-old Crombie acknowledged the last two provincial elections have been tough for the Ontario Liberals.
But she called on party members to come together and challenge the status quo, to give the Ontario Liberals a new start.
Crombie plans to officially resign as Mississauga Mayor early in the New Year… after the city and Peel municipal budgets are completed.
Crombie has served three terms as the mayor of Mississauga, and has boasted that she seems to rankle Premier Doug Ford.
Ford’s response to Crombie’s challenge: “Bring it on.”
