It’s a story that captured the hearts of many this weekend.

A kangaroo that’s been hopping around the Oshawa area since Thursday evening was safely captured this morning.

It escaped when its handler stopped to let the animal stretch its legs at the Oshawa Zoo during a journey to Quebec.

Toronto Zoo President and CEO Dolf DeJong  says while he can’t speak about the condition of the Oshawa facility, he’d like to see provincial and national standards around the movement of animals.

“So the travel plan is clear, the transfers are clear, and really first and foremost, minimize these kinds of movements so that these animals are not in harms way.”

Durham Regional Police say the animal will get looked over by a veterinarian but doesn’t appear to be injured.
