He was a Grammy winning Italian pianist who performed frequently at Milan’s La Scala and at Carnegie Hall in New York.
La Scala has announced the passing of Maurizio Pollini.
A statement says Pollini died Saturday but did not give a cause. He’d been forced to cancel a concert at the Salzburg Festival in 2022 because of heart problems.
Over a six decades-long international career, Pollini’s repertoire expanded beyond the standard classics to embrace Stravinsky and postwar modernists.
La Scala defined him as “one of the great musicians of our time and a fundamental reference in the artistic life of the theatre for over 50 years.”
Maurizio Pollini was 82.
