Citizens of the Netherlands marked King’s Day on Saturday, bedecked in the national orange color, dancing, eating orange-glazed pastries and of course, taking to the canals of Amsterdam.

People across the country also engaged in the traditional “free markets” held on Saturday, selling second-hand items.

Enjoying a slight rise in popularity as per a national poll, King Willem-Alexander celebrated his 57th birthday with his family in the northeastern city of Emmen.

The king told Dutch broadcaster NOS that celebrating one’s birthday with family “is the most beautiful thing you can experience.”
