Updates on two labour fronts.

Early Monday morning, WestJet and its mechanics’ union are seeing clear skies after the pair announced a tentative deal that would avoid a potential strike.

Around 670 unionized engineers and skilled trade workers still need to ratify the deal — terms of which have not been made public.

WestJet had issued a 72-hour lockout notice on Saturday.

And a strike at Nestle’s may take a bite of the chocolate bar market.

More than 450 workers at the company’s Toronto factory are off the job after voting down a tentative agreement Sunday night.

The unionized workers want improvements to the pension plan, and have rejected a two-year cost of living adjustment freeze.

The Nestle plant produces Kit Kat, Aero and Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, as well as Smarties.

But the company says it doesn’t expect the strike to have an immediate effect on the products’ availability in stores.
