Governor General Mary Simon’s office has announced 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada.

Pop star Avril Lavigne is among this year’s class of honourees who will be invested into the Order in the coming months.

Magician David Ben is also being recognized as one of Canada’s leading sleight of hand artists and is joining the ranks of his mentors.

Ben says that includes the late radio mogul Allan Slaight, who got his start as a magician.

Other honourees this year include former Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz.
