If you thought gridlock was bad now in the city, wait until this weekend. In addition to Canada Day events, there are road closures in place for this weekends Pride Festivities.

City spokesman Nitish Bissonauth says you may want to take public transit.

“We strongly encourage you to take public transit especially since there are no scheduled subway closures this weekend and to support customers attending the fireworks at Ashbridges Bay Monday night, the TTC is adding an additional train on line 2 and extra buses,” said Bissonauth.

Those fireworks start at 10 p.m. and Toronto Police Staff Sgt. Kim O’Toole is reminding those attending there are strict rules in place.

“You cannot have alcohol, you cannot have fireworks, you also can’t light fires or bonfires on the beach or in the park and the bbq’s also require a permit from the city.”

Hundreds of thousands are expected to converge in the city this weekend and there are numerous road closures in effect.

This is the 43rd year for Pride Toronto.

More than three million attended last year’s Pride Festival injecting $5 million  into the local economy.
