The New York Times is reporting that President Joe Biden has privately acknowledged that the next stretch of days are critical to whether he can save his reelection bid for president.
He made it clear to an ally Tuesday that he understands what would prompt him to accept: “It’s just not working.” In that private conversation, Biden also “blamed himself” – not his staff – for the debate performance.
The unnamed ally said that Biden is aware that his upcoming public appearances must go well after his devastating presidential debate with Trump last week.
In the days since Biden’s poor debate showing, Democrats have expressed grave concern with some elected officials publicly calling on Biden to drop out for the good of the party.
White House spokesman Andrew Bates called the newspaper’s report “absolutely false.”
