The Hong Kong Philharmonic has hired a 24-year old from Finland to be its next music director.

Tarmo Peltokoski will succeed Jaap van Zweden for a five-year term beginning with the 2026-27 season.  He’ll be the orchestra’s music director designate in 2025-26.

Peltokoski, who lives in Helsinki, has been music director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra since 2022-23, an appointment that runs through the 2024-25 season. He will also serve as music director of France’s Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in 2025-26.
