Winners of the new Canadian Screen Awards next year could be going home with a “Candy”.
Or a “Pickford”. Or even a “Norman”.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television is soliciting suggestions about what to call the new awards that were handed out for the first time last week.
So far, many people have have posted recommendations on twitter to name the award after the late Toronto-born comic actor John Candy.
Other suggestions include naming the statuette after other Toronto exports to Hollywood, Mary Pickford and Norman Jewison.
Academy CEO Helga Stephenson says they have a year to decide, and will be posting a poll on the website: www.academy.ca.
