WAIT TIMES STRETCHING OUT EVEN LONGER

The waiting isn’t getting any better for Canadians needing  medical treatment.

 Health care facilities still aren’t meeting wait time targets set in 2004 for bypass surgery, hip and knee replacements, hip fracture repair and cataract surgery.

A report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information shows more than 538-thousand Canadians had priority surgical procedures and specialized treatments last year — up 21-thousand from 2011.

The number of hip and knee replacements rose by 15 per cent between 2010 and 2012, but the proportion of patients who received timely treatment in 2012 dropped  in both categories
