MIRVISH COMES TO THE RESCUE OF FRINGE PLAY

One of the casualties of Monday’s superstorm was the Toronto Fringe Festival.

Many productions had to cancel because of the severe storm….including one of the festival’s big hits, the sold out “Musical of Musicals: the Musical.”

Shows playing at the Toronto Fringe Festival normally operate on a shoestring, and every dollar counts to make sure the performers end up with something in their bank accounts.

On Tuesday, the show was looking at having to cancel again because of a power failure. Until Mirvish Productions came to the rescue.

Mirvish director of communications John Karastimatis offered the production a rehearsal space up the street from the powerless venue. The audience trooped up to the new space, helped assemble enough chairs from all over the building, and the actors performed without costumes and props on a makeshift stage.

Director Vinetta Srombergs say the audience loved the show, cheering the actors on and giving them a standing ovation.
