The iconic Honest Ed’s store at the corner of Bloor and Bathurst is said to be up for sale.  The National Post is reporting the famous emporium has been put on the market, along with some surrounding land also owned by the Mirvish family.  The report says several real estate companies have been invited to make an offer in a transaction that could be worth about $100-million. David Mirvish would only say that nothing has been sold.  The store, with its high wattage outdoor marquee and schmaltzy posters, first opened in 1948 by David’s father, Ed Mirvish.  His seed capital of $212 came from cashing in his wife’s insurance policy.  After the store, the Mirvishes expanded and diversified their empire.  Today, they operate Mirvish Productions, the most prominent company in the Canadian live-theatre business.
