A report released by the Canadian Medical Association says how much you earn, where you live and how well you eat are viewed by Canadians as key factors that affect health. The report makes a dozen recommendations on what governments and individuals can do to make their lives healthier. The four main factors noted as having a major impact on health, were early childhood development, nutrition and food security, housing and income. The reports is called “Health care in Canada; What makes us sick”. The findings are the result of a number of town hall meetings held from St. John’s to Calgary to Hamilton and focused on social factors that cause poor health. The town hall meetings heard from about a thousand people between February and June of this year.
