Toronto’s new Film Commissioner has an inside knowledge of the business.
He’s actor-director Zaib Shaikh – who was born and raised in Toronto and is a well-known actor, writer, director and producer.
Shaikh is probably best known for his starring role as the Imam on the international hit comedy “Little Mosque on the Prairie.”
Toronto’s film, tv, video and entertainment industry represents over a billion dollars in annual investment – along with 25,000 jobs.
The new Film Commissioner has also been named as the Director of Entertainment Industries and Shaikh says he will focus on growing the city’s evolving media and entertainment landscape – which takes in the tourism industry and the growth of the many special events hosted by the City of Toronto.
