They talked past the deadline, into the wee hours of the morning and in the end averted a strike by Go Transit bus drivers that would have affected some 53,000 commuters. Terms of the deal, between Metrolinx and Local 1587 of the Amalgamated Transit Union won’t be released until after the contract is ratified. The previous three year contract expired at midnight Saturday and the drivers were in a legal strike position as of midnight Sunday. The proposed settlement avoids what would have been the first strike in Go Transit’s 47 years history.
