Most Broadway musicals produce an original cast album. It usually happens in a recording studio on the actors’ day off.
But one current hit show is keeping it all in the theatre.
Audra McDonald plays Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. Since the show takes the form of a concert, PS Classics has decided to produce a two-disc live recording of the show. It was recorded last week, and is being produced by Tommy Krasker, who was behind the controls for McDonald’s three solo albums.
Audra McDonald is nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. She already has five Tony Awards, a record she shares with Angela Lansbury and Julie Harris.
The CD will be released July 15th.
