Some twenty drivers fell victim to Mayor John Tory’s zero-tolerance policy on stopping on downtown streets during rush hour this morning.
They were ticketed as part of a new campaign the mayor announced last month as part of his plan to reduce gridlock in Toronto.
The policy applies during the morning and afternoon commutes in an area bounded by Dupont to the north, King to the south, Dufferin to the west, and Parliament to the east.
Tory says it’s part of a six-point policy to reduce gridlock in Toronto. And he praised companies such as Canada Post for doing its part. The crown corporation is changing its mail pickup times so that its trucks aren’t blocking traffic during peak travel times.
Stopping illegally during rush hour carries a fine of $150 or more. Towing will raise the penalty to $500.
