The Cancer Quality Council of Ontario has released a report that outlines improvement in survival rates for the most common cancers in Ontario.
The Council, which is an arm’s lengthy advisory group to Cancer Care Ontario, says when compared with other provinces and countries, survival rates in Ontario are among the highest anywhere.
Among selected countries with similar socio-economic status and health care systems, Ontario had the highest relative survival ratio for colo-rectal cancer and also had a high ranking for both prostate and lung cancer survival.
The CQCO came up with the numbers using a index of 34 indicators.
The group says Ontario’s made substantial investments in its cancer strategy and that it would be beneficial to improve measurements of those investments.
