The classically trained painter, who was also a talented sculptor and artist, but who ultimately became famous for creating the the ultimate piece of North American suburban kitsch, has died at the age of 79. Don Featherstone embraced the fame and fortune he derived from inventiing the pink plastic lawn flamingo. Featherstone died at an elder care facility in Massachusetts, after a long battle with dementia.
