The Syrian American Medical Society reports that almost 1,500 people have died in more than 160 chemical weapons attacks in Syria’s five-year civil war.
The organization is asking the U.N. Security Council and the international community to quickly identify perpetrators and hold them accountable.
The Syrian government has been accused of using chemical weapons on its people before. The U.N. Security Council ordered the elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons program back in 2013. The Syrian government denies any attacks.
The Syrian American Medical Society calls today’s report the most comprehensive listing of chemical weapons attacks in Syria so far and says these kinds of attacks are increasing with almost 15-thousand people injured in total.
