Three new governors have been added to the board of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

And six minority members have been appointed to other leadership positions.

The academy is also apologizing for a racially insensitive skit – presented by host Chris Rock – during last month’s Oscar show.

The board also gave the thumbs-up to other changes proposed in January – designed to increase diversity within the academy – which include limiting Oscar voting rights – to those active in the film business.

The academy has released a statement saying it “regrets that any aspect of the Oscar telecast was offensive.”

That comes in response to complaints about a skit during the academy Awards – that some members said stereotyped Asians.
