The group that represents registered nurses in this province will closely be watching a case set to start next Tuesday in B.C.
Dr. Brian Day, a self-styled champion of privatized health care in Vancouver, is heading to the provincial Supreme Court, to fight for what he claims are patients’ Constitutional rights to timely, affordable medical treatment.
The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario says Daly, the founder of a private surgical facility, is determined to undermine a key principle of the health-care system that exists for all.
The RNAO fears if the court rules in his favour, then it would essentially pave the way for U.S.-style, two-tier health care, where just those with private insurance or the money to pay out of pocket, get health care.
Association chief executive officer Dr. Doris Grinspun says, ”This is an attack on our country’s health system, pure and simple. Brian Day believes and has always believed that the system exists for him and others to profit from it.”
