The 69-year-old is working with music critic Alexis Petridis on the as-yet-untitled memoir.
John said in a statement how cathartic he was finding the process.
”As a I look back, I realize what a crazy life I have had the extreme privilege of living … My life has been one heulluva rollercoaster ride and it’s still lumbering on.  I have grown up in a period of extraordinary change in our world – and have had the joyful honor of rubbing shoulders and working with so many of the people at the heart of these changes.”
John’s won five Grammys and an Academy Award over a five-decade career.
He released his 33rd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, last February, continues to tour while holding down a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Vegas.
