Maybe you watch what you eat now, but when you were younger and wanted something fast and filling, you likely had more than one of these over the years.
The McDonald’s franchisee, who came up with the Big Mac, almost 50 years ago, has died.
Michael James ”Jim” Delligatti was 98.
Delligatti invented the signature burger near Pittsburgh in 1967, after deciding customers wanted a bigger sandwich.
He once said that McDonald’s resisted the idea at first pointing out its simple menu was doing well.
But of course demand for the two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun exploded and was added to the chain’s national menu in 1968.
McDonald’s has sold billions since in more than 100 countries.
Delligatti received no payment or royalties for coming up with the Big Mac.
