Brace yourself!  Food is about to get a whole lot more expensive.

Researchers at Dalhousie University in Halifax estimate the typical Canadian family will spend up to $420 more on food in 2017 as prices rise between 3% and 5 %.  They also think it will be more expensive to dine out with restaurant meals expected to increase by 2% to 4%.
Researchers say the Canadian dollar and U-S president-elect Donald Trump’s first year in power will be the two biggest factors pushing up prices.  They expect the loonie to slide against the U-S dollar and say Trump’s policies, like the possible deportation of illegal, seasonal farm workers, will drive up food costs.
