A mumps outbreak in Toronto has now affected at least one student at Forest Hill Collegiate.
The Toronto District School Board says the risk of acquiring the mumps in city schools is low but the board advises parents to ensure their child’s vaccinations are up to date – and to be certain that youngsters who are four-years-old and older have two doses of the mumps vaccine.
According to Public Health, most of those with the mumps are over 18 – and only about 40-percent were immunized.
As of today, there are 26 confirmed cases in Toronto – which typically sees only about 5 a year.
