Marijuana companies caught using banned pesticides – will face fines of up to $1-million per violation.
The Globe and Mail reports that the hefty fines will be locked into federal legislation – as the government clamps down on unauthorized use of dangerous chemicals by licensed cannabis growers.
An investigation last year revealed that banned pesticide use in the medical-marijuana industry was far worse that the government realized – resulting in some serious health consequences for people who were exposed – including cancer patients who took the drug to ease their pain.
A Health Canada spokeswoman says the legislative changes will provide the minister of health with the authority to issue a penalty of up to $1-million for each violation of the act or its regulations.
