Almost 20 years later, Hillary Clinton is still standing by her husband as the #MeToo movement renews interest in the affair between the then 49 year old U.S. president and a 22 year old White House intern.
The former U.S. secretary of state and democratic presidential candidate was asked on CBS Sunday morning if Bill Clinton should have stepped down in 1999 in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. She insisted it was not an abuse of power, “absolutely not”, and about Lewinsky, “she was an adult.”
Clinton then quickly turned the conversation to the current President Donald Trump.
“Where’s the investigation of the current incumbent, against whom there are numerous allegations have been made and which he dismisses, denies and ridicules. So, there was an investigation (she says of her husband) and as I believe, came out in the right place.”
Bill Clinton was acquitted by the U.S. Senate after impeachment proceedings were brought forward by the House of Representatives for perjury and obstruction of an investigation into his affair with Lewinsky. The Clintons have a speaking engagement here in Toronto November 27th at Scotiabank Arena.
