We are continuing to experience below seasonal temperatures for the middle of January when the average high temperature is -2 celcius.

An extreme cold weather alert was terminated on Friday morning with the overnight temperature into Saturday not expected to be as bitter at -9 celcius.

Toronto’s medical officer of health could re-issue the alert tomorrow morning with an emphasis on local services that focus on getting and keeping vulnerable residents inside.

A warming centre at Toronto’s Metro Hall is open around the clock during extreme cold weather alerts and other services include notification to community agencies to relax any service restrictions, availability of transit tokens in some drop-ins and additional overnight street outreach.

This was the first extreme cold weather alert of the new year. Overnight temperatures will be close to -15 celcius Saturday and Sunday nights, and that’s without the wind chill.
