Don’t worry about rummaging through your glove compartment if police pull you over and ask to see your ”pink” insurance slip.
As of now you can display that on your cellphone.
To ensure a smooth transition however, there will be a one-year phase-in period, when insurers will have to issue both the ”pink” card, along with the e-option if it’s requested.
Finance Minister Rod Phillips says the e-cards will feature safeguards that won’t allow them to be edited and privacy concerns are top of mind.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada welcomes the choice, pointing out consumers already have digital options in other sectors such as banking and retail.
