25 very different types of recordings are being added to the US Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in what’s being billed as the “the ultimate stay at home” playlist.
Heading the list are modern classics from two very different sources.
The theme from Mister Rogers’ Neighbourhood is on the list as is the monster hit from the Village People, “Y.M.C.A.”
The new additions also include rap music, obscure historical spoken word pieces, the original cast album for “Fiddler on the Roof” and the play-by-play broadcast of the 1951 National League tiebreaker between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The registry was created twenty years ago to preserve recordings that are “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
