The armed man accused of accessing the grounds of Rideau Hall in Ottawa faces numerous charges related to Thursday morning’s incident.
The RCMP announced that he was in a morning bail hearing a day a heavy police presence responded to the call Thursday morning.
They say Thursday’s started around 6:30am and came to an end around peacefully 8:30am.
Police won’t release the suspect’s name but multiple reports have identified an army reservist named Corey Hurren from Manitoba as the suspect. He allegedly drove his truck through a gate on the grounds and then continued on foot.
Police quickly made contact with him and engaged in a discussion before ultimately taking the suspect into custody.
Governor General Julie Payette lives at Rideau Hall and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s family is currently living on the grounds at Rideau Cottage. Neither the Governor General nor the Prime Minister were on the grounds at the time.
