Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s two daughters have ties to WE; one of them as a paid contract employee.
Asked if her position had anything to do with a now cancelled contract; which would have seen the charity administer a summer student grant program, a spokesperson for Morneau says there’s ”absolutely no link” between his daughter’s employment with WE and any work the charity does with the government.
However, the spokesperson also says Morneau did not recuse himself from cabinet’s decision to agree to pay WE $19.5-million to run the program.
This development comes as the opposition Conservatives call on the RCMP to investigate the WE Charity scandal.
Tory ethics critic Michael Barrett says Canadians deserve to know which cabinet ministers were aware that members of the Trudeau family had been paid by WE in the past.
