The ”For Sale” sign’s gone up on The Second City comedy theatre company.
Founded in Chicago in 1959, it’s expanded over the years with locations in Hollywood and Toronto in 1973.
”I have had an extraordinary 47-year run guiding this wonderful living, breathing, dynamic comedy institution,” co-owner Andrew Alexander says in a statement.
”Watching the talent development process has given me more than one person should be allowed.  But it is time for a new generation with fresh ideas to take the company to the next level.”
Second City suspended all its shows and classes in March when the pandemic hit, although it’s reopened on a limited basis, with audiences capped at 50 and mask or face covering mandatory.
Eugene Levy, John Candy, Martin Short, Mike Myers, Catherine O’Hara are among those who’ve honed their comedic skills at Second City.
