TORONTO’S POLICE CHIEF MARK SAUNDERS WILL BE MAKING AN APOLOGY THIS AFTERNOON FOR RAIDS THAT EXPLICITLY TARGETED THE TORONTO’S GAY COMMUNITY BACK IN 1981, WHERE NEARLY 300 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH OWNING OR BEING FOUND IN A COMMON BAWDY HOUSE. MORE THAN 90 PER CENT OF THE CHARGES WERE DROPPED OVER THE YEARS, AND IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE RAIDS GALVANIZED TORONTO’S LGBTQ COMMUNITY TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND FIND A STRONG, POLITICAL VOICE. SAUNDERS IS MAKING THE APOLOGY DURING TORONTO’S PRIDE MONTH.  OUR GUEST IS COMMUNITY HEALTH ADVOCATE RON ROSENES, WHO WAS ONE OF THE MEN ARRESTED BACK IN ’81, HE GIVES US HIS TAKE ON THE APOLOGY.
