The province has shut down the PSW registry claiming it was failing to conduct sufficient background checks – like vetting criminal and education records of its 30,000 members. The registry was run by the Ontario Community Support Association, but the not-for-profit CEO Deborah Simon says they just couldn’t realistically meet the deadlines demanded by the province. Now, the Ontario Personal Support Workers Association wants a second crack at running the registry. OPSWA CEO and Chair Miranda Ferrier joins Libby, as does PC Health Care Critic Jeff Yurek.
