The province of Ontario just announced an emergency task force to deal with the opioid crisis. Last year there were a total of 865 opioid deaths in the province, a 19 per cent increase from the previous year. Firefighters will now be required to carry naloxone, a medication used to block the effects of opioids, especially in overdose. You can also get naloxone from your pharmacist without a prescription.  John Papastergiou of the Ontario Pharmacists Association tells us everything we need to know about this antidote, and why and where it should be available.
