With one in five Canadians affected by chronic pain, the Federal Health Minister is forming a National Task Force to delve into the matter. But, Canada’s Minister of Health and MP for Moncton-Riverview-Diepp Ginette Petitpas Taylor says it’s too early to say whether a national pain strategy will be developed from the information to be be gathered over three years. Petitpas Taylor says the eight members of the task force will spend three years consulting with people across the country to provide information on how to better prevent, treat and manage chronic pain. The first of three reports to the federal government is expected in June. Libby speaks with Dr. Norman Buckley, Scientific Director of the Michale G. DeGroote Institute for Pain Research and Care at McMaster University.
