While all signs point to Honda, Doug Ford is having trouble containing himself, teasing an unrelated conference in Toronto about something big coming in several days.
”This week, we landed a new deal. It’ll be the largest deal in Canadian history,” the premier told the crowd.
”It’ll be ‘double’ the size of Volkswagen. So stay tuned, I’ll be announcing it this week.”
The announcement’s expected to happen Thursday at Honda’s existing facility in Alliston, where plans are to be revealed to bring a ”massive project,” as one source calls it, to the province for the manufacturing of electric vehicles, batteries and other components.
The same source says the deal would be based on federal funding through investment tax credits; not direct subsidies worth billions that other automakers, including Volkswagen and Stellantis received, to build electric battery plants in the province, as well as unspecified support from the province.
