It is good news for art lovers and the employees who work around art for a living.
It appears a tentative deal has been reached to end the strike at the Art Gallery of Ontario, nearly a month after workers walked off the job and forced the closure of the AGO.
In a message posted on X Thursday morning, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union says a tentative agreement was reached after 16 hours of bargaining that went late into the night.
The 400 employees went on strike March 26th after rejecting the art gallery’s original offer.
The dispute has mainly revolved around wages.
Union representatives have said that more than 60 percent of the gallery’s workforce are part-time employees who make an average of less than $35,000 a year.
The workers cover a range of roles, including assistant curators, archivists, food and hospitality staff, researchers, and visitor services staff.
No word yet on when the AGO will reopen.
