Authorities are searching for a motive for the gunman who they say killed 10 people at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dance club during Lunar New Year celebrations.
Asian American groups in the area experienced a surge of panic following the Monterey Park killings, which also cast a shadow on national celebrations.
The shooter was discovered Sunday in a van, apparently dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities claim that after individuals stopped him from carrying out a second shooting on Saturday night, he left in the car.
The Los Angeles County sheriff identified him as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran.
Little is known about Tran or his connection to the targeted community and dance halls.
This is the deadliest attack in the United States since 21 people were killed last May at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
